In the January 23rd Early General Elections, he ran as a candidate from the National Unity Party (UBP) and was elected as an MP for Nicosia. Ahmet Savaşan, thanked the public with a post on his social media account.
Evaluating the election result as a ‘historical success’, Savaşan said, “I would like to extend my sincere thanks to all our voters who did not spare us their votes and participated in the election and made us experience this feast of democracy.”.
Underlining that we are in a difficult period and that the UBP has undertaken a difficult task, Savaşan said, “UBP is the party that has already achieved difficulties. As the members of this party, we will continue to contribute to this glorious struggle.”.
Savaşan's post is as follows:
“Thank you from the bottom of my heart.
Dear elders, dear citizens,
dear UBP members;
We left another election behind with success. The success we achieved in this election at a time when we were shouldering the responsibility for all the negative effects of the Covid-19 pandemic and the destruction it caused on economic life is historic.
History will surely record that in a society with so many economic problems, the ruling party emerged from the parliamentary elections with an increase in the number of votes and MPs.
I would like to extend my sincere thanks to all our party elders and friends who contributed to this historic achievement, and to all our voters who voted for us and participated in the elections, giving us this feast of democracy.
We have undertaken a difficult task in a difficult period. But the UBP is the party that has already overcome difficulties. As the members of this party, we will continue to contribute to this glorious struggle.
We will continue to be at the service of all TRNC citizens, whether they voted for us or not, and we will continue to work to produce policies that will respond to the needs of the future. Greetings to everyone!”
